I was thinking about my experience at University recently.
When asked what my favourite subject was, I always say Consumer Behaviour, a marketing course I did in my second year, which really sparked my love of marketing. What made this course so interesting?
The lecturer, a published academic in the field of consumer behaviour, had a PhD in the subject, was passionate about it and the passion with which she spoke meant it was easy for her to hold the attention of a group of 40 people for 3 hours.
I find that trainers with genuine passion for the topic they teach make the best lessons.
However, in the past year working with FQM, everything I learned at University has taken a new form as my lessons meld with real-life experience and as I am mentored by the team at FQM, who are both knowledgeable and experienced.
So what am I saying? Charisma is a given for anyone in a trainer role. But in my experience, the best trainers have the golden combination of passion for their subject, knowledge and years of experience in industry.
One person with this combination is our trainer, Professor David Newman. He has in excess of 30 years national and international oil & gas project engineering and management experience. He also has extensive on-site supervisory experience in highly diverse surroundings in the UK, Scandinavia, the Middle East, SE Asia, Africa and S America. And along with continuing to consult in industry, David is also a well-published academic and visiting professor at Cranfield University.
All of this means David is a really rather excellent trainer, with a true understanding for his area of expertise and enough industry experience to bring training alive, with real-world anecdotes and examples.
But David is not alone, at FQM, every single one of our trainers works principally in industry and has – on average – 27 years’ experience in their area of expertise, meaning they are fully aware of the latest changes, developments and legal requirements within their specialisation. Surely this is a better proposition than that offered by full-time trainers, who no longer work in industry, or those who claim to be specialists in their field after undertaking a taught classroom certificate?
I would ask you – why pay more but settle for less? Choose training which is grounded in experience and allows you to hit the ground running when you return to work.
Check out our training web site which showcases all of our courses, all written and delivered by industry experts and offered at highly competitive prices.
